Pincoya Storm-Petrel Expedition

Introduction

Pincoya Storm Petrel Expedition: A new species to the world!

3 Days / 2 Nights

The Pincoya Storm-Petrel (Oceanites pincoyae) is a pelagic bird of the Storm-Petrel Family. The specific name commemorates the Pincoya, a female water spirit of the Chiloe mythology. After being first brought to the attention of the world from photos taken by Seamus Enright and Michael O'Keeffe in 2009, this species was finally formally discovered and examined in 2011 and scientifically described in 2013.

The main goal of our expedition is to find this storm-petrel and get good visual and photographic records. Also, we intend to gather information about the bird´s natural history, its distribution, abundance and presence, among other data.

Other main targets: Black-browed Albatross, Southern Giant-Petrel, Southern Fulmar, Pink-footed & Subantarctic Shearwaters, Magellanic Diving-Petrel, Magellanic Penguin, Imperial & Red-legged Cormorants, Peruvian Pelican, Peruvian Booby, Flightless Steamer-Duck, Kelp Goose, Southern Caracara, Chilean Skua, Dolphin & Brown-hooded Gulls, South American Tern and Dark-bellied Cinclodes, among others. We´ll also have a chance to spot some marine mammals like Blue Whale, Peale´s, Dusky & Chilean Dolphins, South American Sea Lion and Marine Otter.
